Not for the weak...

This is what happened today to my 10-year-old.

UPDATE:
She was out getting water for our cat and did so by the garage door. Once she was done, she headed in and slipped on some water that had splashed on the smooth garage floor. As she slipped her foot slid into the leg of some metal Costco shelves. The shelf caught her between the toes and the opposing forces tore her foot apart between her toes.

She is now stitched back together recovering on the couch with no pain meds except Tylenol and Motrin. She didn't shed a single tear at the hospital

Poor kid...but she impressed me.

Ramble...

So , I titled this blog before writing it, because I figured that is what I would do...ramble. Basically, I just need a few minutes to dump my thoughts before I try and go to sleep. It has been a busy workday, like 11 hours, and I am still sitting in front of my PC by choice...

So, if you can believe it, I have been sitting here for 15 minutes typing and deleting this line over and over. That's right, I have started this paragraph multiple times and deleted what I had to say every time except now...why you ask? Because, I know that it is going to be posted on the internet for everybody and their brother to read and I didn't want any reprocussions...lol.

Isn't that hilarious, I can give some hints though. I started with complaining about people, it was pretty generic when typed, but I was very specific in my head. Then I deleted that because I felt guilty, as yesterday at church they talked about pride and speaking ill of others. Once, I deleted I thought I would try to repent for it by getting all philosophical and typing about looking for the good in others. But...I started feeling hypocritical because, after all, I know what I had just deleted.

Then, after deleting that, I started to type something about the events of the past week, as there were many, and I thought to myself, I have pretty much chatted all that stuff up on Twitter and Facebook, so what is the point of restating the obvious.

The truth is, I am just tired and wanting to sleep, but I can't turn off the voices in my head. They just keep talking and so I keep typing. Eventually, I will just fall asleppjjds here asjd the asdj computwerjkl lkj;laksjdlkasjdks sakjd jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj

What's in a name?

So I posted a blog a couple years ago when we named our daughter Claire, explaining why we picked the name we did and had planned on doing the same this time around...but it was far harder to choose this time. We had thought that Johanna Rose was it, then we she got here we held her and just weren't sure that was going to be the "right" choice.

It's interesting to think that their could be a right or wrong choice in picking a child's name. I also think it's interesting that other people's opinions matter so greatly. When pitching a name around to friends and family, it always surprises that the teasing and tauntings begins...the facial expressions and "she'll be called..." starts right then. Now, many may think, isn't it better to know then what people will say than after she's in school and the kids start to make fun. My thought to that is, isn't it sad that we as a society expect that our children will be teased because of their name.

Ok, enough of my rant. We have decided to name our daughter Johanna Rose. Johanna is my wife's middle name, which was actually her reason for not wanting to use it. I think the name is beautiful and not very common. My mom's name is Joni which comes from the same root as Johanna which means "God is Gracious." The name Rose is a family name, it is my grandmother's name on my birth father's side. I don't know her and I have never been close to that side of the family but, I want to encourage the link between past and present, as even the worst family histories are part of the trip to where we are.

Other considerations were Ava Jane and Sophia Rose, but we have a beautiful niece with the middle name Sophia already and though it would be easy to share, there was so many other options.

Now that we picked the name, it is my hope that the world will be kind and accepting of it. We officially welcome you Johanna Rose Hipol.
