"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning how to dance in the rain."
I have a coworker that has this quote written on the white board next to his desk. I really liked it so I thought I would share it with you here.
I think that all too often we spend our time looking at our trials and waiting, sometimes even hoping that that they pass regardless of how much time that may take. Some go through these experiences just watching the wick burn through our life's candle. I think I am learning how much is wasted by sitting back and riding out a storm.
Just like weather our lives are unpredictable, changing and evolving into directions sometimes we never expect them to travel. I believe that it is our choice to give up because of a little bad weather or continue the journey anyway.
Taking on a cliche, I think that it will be fun to tell others about your walk in life but its more impressive if you can say you did it uphill, both ways, in the snow...
I hope that there are those out there that have learned to dance in the rain. If there are please feel free to share your experiences with me.
I have worked really hard to try and get in shape this year. My age finally hit me and I realize that it isn't going to get any easier. That being said, I have worked out more this year than the last 10. While I was working away from my family I was able to hit the gym every night for a couple hours. I did this for three months. My goal wasn't to lose weight but to get into shape. I didn't diet, just watched what I ate. That being said, I lost over 20 lbs. My problem was that when my family moved out, I got comfortable again and literally just stopped going to the gym. I can make a lot of excuses but in the end it boiled down to time. I realized the error of my ways and didn't want to completely waste all the effort I made and have been using my lunch hour to go to the gym. I figured, it solves two problems, going out to eat fast food and replacing it with exercise. I was wondering if anyone else out there has any suggestions to help get fit without taking too much time from family life. I realize the investment is worth the reward and I am sure that I am not the only one that suffers the question. I want to be around a long time for my kids and grandkids.
Well, as you can imagine when you are trying to raise a family of what soon became eight; I couldn’t get my ends to meet the way they in which needed. I loved working for myself but, it just wasn’t enough to take care of my family. Long story short, an opportunity came that I couldn’t pass up. I prayed about it and discussed it and decided that in terms of our family, it would be best.
The opportunity required me to work out of state over the next few months, only to return home on weekends. Nobody wanted that to happen but there was no way around it with the cost of travel and gas. Again, more praying and hoping I could do what was right. It is probably, the toughest decision that I have had to make as a husband and father.
The little girl who had been following me around the last year and a half took it the hardest. Following me around every day and snuggling me through naps and tucking her into bed, was removed from her little world. She wanted to talk to me every day I was gone. I would record YouTube videos to send her and video chat with her at night. The rest of my kids didn’t like the situation either, but they were old enough to understand and know it was temporary. But she didn’t. It saddens me to know that I broke that little girl’s heart.
