I am totally stoked. My blog for Mr. M has made it to the first page of Google Search results. I am fairly excited about that...as I know that Mario will forever be at the bottom of the list because of Nintendo's famous mustahced character. That being said...for geeks its the smallest things that excite us.
Anyway...Google away.
Today, I did a funny thing. I had so much going on, I was very stressed about getting it all done and making it to conference. I barely made it home by 6:15 for a conference that started at 7:00PM. I ran upstairs, shaved, forgoed the shower and got dressed and ready by 6:40PM. Hoped in the car and headed to the Stake Center.
When I got there there were only a few cars in the parking lot, and my wife said maybe not that many people came to conference. As we started to pull up, I could see through the doors twinkling lights in the cultural hall. I asked myself who would schedule a reception during Stake Conference? Then it hit me...maybe it isn't Stake Conference?
I ended up calling a member of my Bishopric and found out that my calendar is a week off and Stake Conference isn't until next week...lol.
Anyone ever have something like that happen to you?
They were captivated by her beauty...not just what you could see in her perfect clothes and exacting style; she had something more in her eyes. It gave the appearance of confidence with a subtle inkling of divinity, truly angelic. They were transfixed on her every move. Tracking her with their eyes as she flowed through the room like a river of melting snow, leaving them with the slightest chill as she walked past. There was no one in that room that could deny her presence, though each of them would. After all, ghosts aren't supposed to be real, are they?
It's a cliche that anyone who is LDS has probably heard but all may not have the same impression about its meaning. To some it is an indication that things are doing well and you are where you need to be spiritually so there is no worry.
However, it is also to many and mockery of that same concept conceding that there may be those that have convinced themselves that they are where they need to be spiritually but are fooling themselves. Recently, there was a lesson taught by our Bishopric that discussed pornography's influence on the church and the huge need for people to get matters resolved. There was an indication made that many people may have a problem that they don't even realize they have.
I found it very interesting that it was addressed. I think that there are things that we subject ourselves to that may not be as obvious and blatant as pornography but every bit as detrimental to our salvation. I think there are books and TV shows out there that are subtle in their exposing you thought and images but over time have the exact same effect as extreme pornography when exposed over time. I think of it like radioactive exposure...once in a heave dose can kill you but so can small doses over time.
I think the most important step you can take is to recognize to what you are exposing yourself. I was driving to work the other day and there was a radio station discussing shows that you watch that you wouldn't want anyone to know you watched. The irony was the list of shows that people called in for was a who's who of shows that contain promiscuity, sexual content, violence and all of which are on prime time on regular television stations. I think that if there is any show you are watching that you are embarrassed by or don't want anyone to know that you are watching...there may be a problem.
I would encourage everyone to carefully consider what it is you watch on television and movies, and if you are concerned that maybe it isn't ok, you may already have your answer.
So I came across this video on CNN and surprisingly enough I have a big issue with it. This young lady was suspended for dying her hair pink. I am not a big fan of pink hair personally, but in the world we live in there are so many individuals with colored hair, how can we say which colors are appropriate if any colors are allowed? As a parent, if I say that it is ok for my daughter to do something based on my understanding of the "rules" and a school try and tell me that they aren't going to allow it, I have issue. I have to say that I support her cause, she didn't intentionally violate the rules because she is rebellious, she was doing it in memory of her father who died of cancer when she was six. I hope that the school recognizes their mistake, if not, I hope she is able to finish her education somewhere that deserves to have a young lady as courageous as her. Tomorrow my daughter is going to the temple to do a baptism for her great-great-great aunt. She isn't going for a youth temple trip she is going with her grandmother and her great-aunt just to do that baptism. In order for her to be able to do that, she had to schedule and interview with our Bishop to get a recommend. I have been so impressed by her. The gospel is important to her and she really wanted to be able to go and get her recommend to do the work.
At thirteen years old, I can only hope that she will continue to value that recommend.
Today, I came home from work and took my kids to the local swimming pool. I guess I should say I took five of them. We had so much fun together. I really think its important that I pay more attention to how I spend my time. I was doing some calculations and I realized that by the time my youngest, is as old as my oldest, my oldest will be graduating from college and maybe even starting a family. How mind boggling is that?
My children and I have so much fun together. I am so grateful for the fact that they want to spend time with their dad. I know that isn't always the case and some people don't have that pleasure. It is my hope that I never take that for granted and that they will continue to want to spend time with me.
I hope that anyone who reads this, takes time out to spend time and play with their children...and remember the church commercials...Family, isn't it about time?
I think that is is time we all came clean and tell the world the truth. We aren't getting any smarter we just have Google. I mean, what on earth did we do before Google. Go to the library, read a book? Pick up a newspaper to see what happened yesterday? I mean really...
I think that it is time I gave credit where credit is due and thank Google for being there for me the last few years. You have really made me look much brighter than I really am. Take today for example, we were behind the eight ball on a project and I have to admit, I was a little concerned. We came up against a bug that seemed to be a complete show stopper. Then, it came to me in a browser...the fourth page of search results to be exact, someone somewhere a couple months ago found a solution from someone else and blogged it. There in front of me was a solution, I tried it and it worked.
Needless to say, it was very well received by the rest of the team. They were impressed with my "mad skills." Well, in an effort towards personal improvement and humility, I am sharing it with the world. I am not really that smart...I just Google. Of course, I know that no one reads my blog so I am going to continue to get by with a little help from my friends...
